Jersey Scout Climbing Club
The Jersey Scout Climbing Club (JSCC), formed in 2016, is the only youth climbing club on the Island and is open to Scouts and Explorer Scouts as an additional weekly Scouting activity.
Members are able to work towards level 1 and 2 National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) along with completing Scout and Explorer Scout Awards, including the Climber Badge, elements of the Challenge Badges and Platinum and Diamond Chief Scout’s Awards. The Club is also able to support the Physical and Skill elements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, whether these are being completed at Scouts, School or another DoE Group. We are also able to support the GCSE Sport subject, if it is being studied at school.
The Club run activities and events, including outdoor climbing and abseiling, visits to other climbing walls and residential camps.
A team of 6 dedicated, trained coaches, all with climbing experience are able to provide a varied and structured weekly programme, which focuses on climbing techniques, self-confidence, teamwork and the personal challenge of climbing, and it’s great fun too!
If you’re heading to University NICAS Level 1 and 2 Awards earn you additional UCAS points in support of your applications. As a club member you will learn and develop climbing skills, if you’re heading off Island to study this will allow you to join a local climbing club, find new friends and create opportunities for adventure. If you’re staying a little closer to home and fancy climbing some of Jersey’s amazing routes, the skills and experiences gained while with the JSCC will help you to experience the fantastic sport of climbing.
The JSCC meet on Thursday evenings, during term time, at the Langford Sports Centre, from 1900 until 2030.
