A Quick Introduction From The New Deputy Island Commissioner (Support)

Date: 20th Dec 2018 Author: Glen Militis

Hello Everyone,

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as whilst I have been able to meet a few people in the last couple of weeks I’m conscious that there are many more that I’ve not yet had the opportunity to meet.

For those of you that haven’t met me yet, I am the newly appointed Deputy Island Commissioner for Support.

Not only am I very pleased to have been given the opportunity to help support Scouting across the Island I’m also really looking forward to meeting you, the Adult Volunteers that help provide amazing programmes with our Young People!

As I see it there are two roles in Scouting, those that work directly with Young People and those that support those that work with Young People.

My role exists to help support you in your roles, as without you there would be no provision for Young People to be able to take part in Scouting.

Thank you for your time, energy and enthusiasm and for all that you bring to Scouting!

My role works alongside those of Beverley and Elisabeth to help Glen in his role as Island Commissioner.

The role covers the areas of Training, including all mandatory adult training courses, including the Wood Badge schemes, Safeguarding, Safety, GDPR and First Aid.

It also covers additional training areas, including Nights Away training.

The Island IT systems including Online Scout Manager (OSM) and Microsoft Office365 fall under me, in addition to the Website, Media and Data Protection.

Over the next few months we’ll be working on developing the website and social media in addition to working to update Compass records. The delivery and validation of training is also a key priority.

I’ve been involved in Scouting since I joined Cubs and have held several roles, although am new to the Island as Danni, Harry and I only moved here in August. So please bear with me as I continue getting used to Island life!

I’m keen to help you in your Scouting Roles and to increase awareness of Scouting across the Island. If you have any ideas of things we should be looking at and information that needs updating please let me know.

Please also let me know if you have any news that you would sharing more widely or if you are interested in any of the roles that are currently available.

Specifically, we are looking for more Training Advisors and people that are interested in helping with the Website and Social Media.

Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Many Thanks,

Ian Silvester
